UUSI, LLC v. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. — Fed. Cir. (Nov 6, 2026)
The Federal Circuit hears a dispute about the right to bring a touchscreen patent lawsuit. UUSI, doing business as Nartron, sued Samsung, alleging that certain Samsung tablets infringed its patent on electronic switching circuitry used in touchscreens. The complaint asserted that UUSI owned all rights in the patent and could recover damages for infringement. But Samsung challenged whether UUSI had acquired the patent interest needed to sue. The district court dismissed the case because it found that UUSI had no interest in the patent when the lawsuit began. That is the ruling behind this argument. The dispute therefore concerns who held the patent rights, rather than simply whether the accused tablets used the claimed technology. You will hear UUSI seek to overturn that dismissal and Samsung defend it. Keep the original infringement allegation separate from the ownership question: claiming that a product uses patented technology does not, by itself, resolve whether the person bringing the lawsuit holds the rights at issue.
