United States v. Ruben Oseguera-Gonzalez — D.C. Cir. (argued September 15, 2026)

The D.C. Circuit hears United States versus Ruben Oseguera-Gonzalez. Federal prosecutors described Oseguera-Gonzalez as the second-in-command of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel; Mexico extradited him to the United States in 2020. In April 2023, he signed an English statement of facts for a planned guilty plea, but the plea was never entered. Before trial, the district court barred prosecutors from using that statement in their case-in-chief because no Rule 11 plea colloquy had occurred. A jury later convicted him of a drug-trafficking conspiracy and a firearms offense. In March 2025, the district court sentenced him to life in prison plus thirty consecutive years. On appeal, Oseguera-Gonzalez challenges both his convictions and sentence, while the government asks the court to affirm.
