Patrice Daniels v. Eddie Jones — 7th Cir. (Oct 29, 2026)
The Seventh Circuit hears Patrice Daniels versus Eddie Jones, a dispute over a prison mental-health settlement. Daniels and other Illinois prisoners sued over what they said was inadequate mental-health treatment. Their 2016 settlement promised improvements in care, with court supervision and procedures for returning the case to the active docket. That supervision later expired, but the prisoners wanted to pursue their original claims about care. In an earlier appeal, the Seventh Circuit sent the case back to determine whether the settlement had already resolved those claims. The question is whether the agreement ended the claims or preserved a right to take them to trial if its promises were not met. Mootness asks whether there is still a live legal dispute for the court to decide.
