Oral Arguments, with Context

Real court arguments, crisp audio, with context.

Court recordings can be difficult to follow, and many suffer from poor audio quality. This podcast enhances the audio, provides a brief introduction to each case, and explains legal concepts that may be unfamiliar to some listeners.

We hope these enhancements make oral argument recordings easier to understand, more accessible, and more enjoyable to listen to.

Weatherford Independent School District v. K.L. — 5th Cir. (argued August 31, 2026)

No. 26-10252 Argued August 31, 2026 Published September 1, 2026

The Fifth Circuit hears K.L.'s appeal over the IDEA's stay-put rule. A Texas hearing officer found Weatherford Independent School District denied K.L. a FAPE—a free appropriate public education—and awarded one year at Calo Programs or a comparable approved residential facility as compensatory education. The district court declined to order funding while it reviews that decision. Stay-put normally preserves a student's pendency placement during litigation; K.L. says the award became that placement. Weatherford says K.L.'s earlier move, the order's indefiniteness, and the program's noneducational character defeat relief.
