Ferreira v. Dosin — 2d Cir. (Sep 15, 2026)

The Second Circuit hears Ferreira versus Dosin. Jessie Ferreira is a sergeant in the Hastings-on-Hudson Police Department and was its only female supervisor. She alleges that male subordinates repeatedly undermined her authority, the chief failed to support her as he supported men, and the department promoted Robert Gagliardi—not her—to lieutenant in 2023. After she sued, she says the chief changed overtime rules for remote training and shift-bidding rules in retaliation. The district court dismissed her first complaint, allowed an amendment, then dismissed again before discovery, finding too little factual detail to plausibly infer sex discrimination, unequal treatment, or retaliation. The appeal asks whether Ferreira's allegations need only support a minimal inference of discrimination at the pleading stage, and whether the policy changes plausibly show retaliation.
