Brewington v. Kaur — 2d Cir. (Oct 8, 2026)

No. 25-3015 Argued October 8, 2026 Published October 9, 2026

The Second Circuit hears Brewington versus Kaur. The dispute began in New York Family Court, over Brewington's child-support obligations. She says court officials mishandled her challenges and violated her constitutional rights, causing serious financial harm. She brought a federal civil-rights lawsuit against the support magistrate and other defendants. Section nineteen eighty-three allows suits over violations of federal rights by people acting under state authority. The district court dismissed her complaint, relying in part on domestic-relations abstention and judicial immunity. Brewington is appealing that ruling and is speaking for herself, without a lawyer. She will argue that her suit seeks redress for separate constitutional injuries, not different custody or support orders.
